WORKSHOP TITLE:
RAP MUSIC/HIP HOP VISIONS, resistance, working class, empowerment
WORKSHOP/collaboration with Peek research project CONVIVIALITY AS POTENTIALITY and its newly joined member raper Esra Özmen, MA in arts (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna).
Esra Özmen will lead the first in a series of three workshops that delve into the intersections of personal narrative, artistic resistance, and collective transformation (Convivial Disruption, and Resistance Through Artistic Practice). Through her unique lens as a rapper, video artist, and academic, Esra explores how art can challenge established norms and foster convivial disruption.
In this session, EsRAP will:
- Share her journey into rap music, reflecting on the personal and political influences that shaped her voice.
- Present her first video clips, discussing their creation and cultural significance.
- Narrate her path to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna offering insights into navigating artistic and institutional spaces.
- Conclude with a discussion of her doctoral research, connecting her practice to broader themes of resistance and disruption.
Structure:
The workshop will include a one-hour presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A. Participants will reflect on rap as a creative expression and resistance.
Audience:
Open primarily to students, this workshop provides a space to engage with Esra’s work and explore their own potential for using art as a tool for storytelling and activism.
