MUSLIM FUTURES – MUSLIMISCHE ZUKÜNFTE
Conference
WHEN: 08.06.2024, Saturday
WHERE: Sigmund Freud Privat University, Vienna, Room: E603 Freudplatz 3, 1020 Wien
THE CONFERENCE TAKES PLACE IN COOPERATION WITH Sigmund Freud PrivatUniversität Wien, IFIME, Interdisciplinary Researchcenter Islam and Muslims in Europe; FWF Forschungsprojekt Conviviality as Potentiality (AR 679), Erasmus+ und der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien sowie Muslim Futures sowie Superrr Lab, Berlin.
Who has the privilege to dream – and who does not? What circumstances need to be created to think about Muslim Futures? At a time when racist discourses and policies are affecting the imaginations of Muslims, how does this affect visions for Muslim Futures? How do Muslims shape their identities and their presence in a world that – among many other challenges – is increasingly characterized by anti-Muslim racism? Can Muslim Futurism be used as an approach to support the development of future strategies by and for Muslims and demonstrate the important role that art and culture can play in this? Collective imagination processes would be understood in this context as a project of decolonization.
We are inviting you to a conference that focuses on Muslim Futures as a concept that deals with the development of Muslim communities, culture, sustainability, and art. It refers to the idea that Muslims are and want to be actively involved in shaping their own future and examines the obstacles they face and the opportunities that open up to them.
How do Muslims navigate toward sustainable communities? In addition to space for interdisciplinary academic reflection and exchange, the conference will also offer the opportunity to get to know and discuss specific initiatives and projects.
Concept: Dr. Amani Abuzahra, IFIME, Interdisciplinary Researchcenter Islam and Muslims in Europe
